Body Care: How to care for your body

When you Google "skincare," most results focus primarily on the face. However, skin is the largest organ in the human body and our most important protective mechanism against external influences. Therefore, skincare shouldn't be limited to the face. Body (skin) care is important, but complex – we'll show you how.

When it comes to skincare, we all tend to focus too much on our face. The rest of our body deserves attention too. However, there's no one-size-fits-all solution. Body skin needs an individualized care plan tailored to your skin type, specific problems, and needs. People with darker skin, for example, are more likely to struggle with hyperpigmentation or ashy undertones, while lighter skin is more prone to redness and blemishes. But what everyone has in common is that their skin needs a comprehensive regimen of cleansing and care.

cleaning
Cleansing our faces morning and evening with suitable products has been a lifelong routine for most of us. But what about our bodies? Often, we don't use cleansing products tailored to our skin type and pay far less attention to the ingredients when buying them. However, our legs, stomach, and other areas also need cleansing with ingredients that are good for us. It's especially important not to dry out the skin, so opt for products that contain mostly fatty alcohols and only small amounts of fragrance. Ideally, choose soaps and gels that contain only safe ingredients, as these are the gentlest on the skin during cleansing and don't impair its natural protective barrier.

peeling

For radiant skin all over your body, regular exfoliation is essential. It removes dead skin cells, stimulates blood circulation, and makes your skin smoother. You should exfoliate about once or twice a week. Products containing alpha and beta hydroxy acids are best because they stimulate skin renewal and give you a soft, smooth skin surface. You can also make a basic scrub yourself, for example, with sugar or coffee grounds. Simply mix two tablespoons of granulated sugar or coffee grounds with one tablespoon of olive or coconut oil. Mix the ingredients thoroughly, and your scrub is ready. Please note that mechanical scrubs can cause skin damage if applied too roughly. Therefore, chemical scrubs are generally recommended.

Shaving, waxing, laser treatment

If you prefer smooth skin, you'll inevitably encounter shaving, waxing, or laser treatments. Skin irritation is common with these methods and affects both light and dark skin tones. It's important to exfoliate before shaving or waxing to avoid further irritation. Laser treatments are best performed in winter, as they don't react well to intense sunlight. Furthermore, not all lasers are created equal, so you should thoroughly research whether a particular laser hair removal method is suitable for your specific skin type. Generally speaking, there's nothing wrong with most common hair removal methods, as long as you maintain proper aftercare.

Care
As a general rule, skincare ingredients that are good for your face are also suitable for your body, such as antioxidants and vitamins. SHE[A] RAW, for example, is also available in a 250ml size for the body. This provides your skin with moisture and soothing oils that promote regeneration. After cleansing, and especially after hair removal, it's crucial to keep your body skin well-hydrated and, in summer, to apply sunscreen during the day. This strengthens the skin's natural protective barrier and prepares it for whatever the future may hold – whether sun, cold, or perspiration.
